Brave New World

Post by Artemis Hyde on Thu Jun 25, 2009 12:21 pm

Holy crap this book is MESSED UP!!!!!!!!! Even the little kids! It's so disgusting! Everything is so totally backward....it's just....wrong...However I like the book because of how the author presents the story to show how we should stray away from this type of society.

Yeah, 1984 has issues. It would be horrible to live in a socialistic society. Has Obama read these books?!?!

Courtney. I wanted a different name and that's what Mark suggested.

As far as what the book is about... um it's basically a guy's life in a completely socialistic society.

socialistic? more like fascist...oh wait, which one? Brave New World, or 1984?

and on an unrelated note..well you know what? I'll let you beat yourself up for that one, David. There's nothing I can say in responce to your second question...

I believe he was talking about 1984, but I just wanted to explain in a simple way since he'll probably never read it. No need to go into too much detail and ruin it for those who haven't read it though.

well, we can't really talk about the book unless someone *cough*moderators*cough* gives us the code for the font color that matches the color of the background.

Why not discuss it? Not that anyone would or should actually Desire to read the book. At least this way they'll get a summary.

It would be helpful if /we/ had said code also. Both codes, actually, considering posts alternate in background color. A separate thread in this section might be a wise measure, but there is a spoiler warning on the section. But, a separate thread would provide a more specific spoiler warning (which book has spoilers), so whoever views it knows exactly what they're getting into.

I love it when John hit Lenina! "Whore! Whore!"

The savage is the only reason I want to continue reading, instead of having to continue reading for school. Otherwise, this book is hideous and I would never read it. Though the style is very nice.

Well, the author got his point across.

However, I would have much preferred he got it across in another way...

uh, yeah. But, since this is IB they have to choose the dirtiest books possible. Our teachers seem to have that tendency....like the first playground scene? UGH! I wanted to put the book down.

I talked to Mrs Riordan today at the Jubilee. I told her we had this forum and were discussing Brave New World. She thought it was amusing.

atleast I think so. Read it again. His feet are dangling from the archway, and his feet keep turning, so I thought that he hung himself on a ceiling fan.

Sorry, brief intrusion here. Haven't read the book, but I happened to click wrong and see this.
But, wouldn't a ceiling fan break under that kind of weight?
Also, if you hahg yourself, you're going to turn. It might not be perpetual, but it will happen. Just my two cents.
